An Edible Wild Food Adventure, this 6-Mile Journey on the Oconee River near Athens Ends with a Muscadine Jelly-Making Session The paddle route from Oconee River Campground to Dyars Pasture and through parts of the Oconee National Forest is peaceful and beautiful, but the real star of this show in September is wild muscadines, the native grape that grows in abundance on vines along the banks of the Oconee River. On our journey we’ll hunt down and gather the muscadines, and upon arrival at Dyars Pasture, we’ll fire up the portable stove and cook up a batch of muscadine jelly so that all parties can take home a preserved jar of the delectable spread (provided we harvest enough muscadines!) Skill Level Required: This route features all flatwater. It is suitable for all skill levels from beginner to expert. Register Registration fees are $40 for youth and $75 for adults and youth. Registration closes Sept. 4 or when full. Registration fees include guide services, river maps, shuttle service and a jar of muscadine jelly (provided we harvest enough muscadines).
